Project

Keller Home Loans underwent a significant transition after being acquired by Mutual Mortgage, which required a complete update to their branding and the development of a new website. The primary objective of this project was to rapidly produce a rebranded and fully functional web presence.

My Role

I joined the project strictly as a developer, stepping in just as the design phase was wrapping up. While my involvement in the core design was limited due to my late entry, I did have the opportunity to assist with several design elements as the project progressed.

Goals

  • Quickly develop and launch a rebranded website for the company.
  • Adapt to late entry by making decisions and improvising throughout the development phase.
  • Deliver a site optimized for speed and accessibility, with strong performance scores post-launch.

The Challenge

This project came with unique constraints. The rebranding effort was already underway, and the timeline for launch was extremely tight.

When I joined the project, the design phase was nearly complete, leaving little room for structural or creative adjustments. The challenge was to execute the development efficiently while improving where possible—without delaying the rollout.

Additionally, this was my first project in the mortgage industry, which meant quickly getting up to speed on unfamiliar terminology, UX expectations, and compliance considerations.

The Solution

I stepped in as the lead front-end developer just as design handoff was wrapping up. Although my involvement in the core design was limited due to timing, I contributed to several design refinements throughout the build phase.

Despite the accelerated schedule, I focused on:

  • Implementing clean, maintainable code for scalability.
  • Making small UX and layout improvements where possible.
  • Ensuring strong site performance and accessibility compliance.
  • Conducting quick competitive research to guide better decisions under tight deadlines.

The process was fast-paced and iterative—balancing development efficiency with practical improvements as opportunities arose.

Results

After the initial launch, I revisited the site to make key enhancements focused on performance and accessibility.

Through these post-launch improvements, the site’s Lighthouse scores now consistently land in the 90s, reflecting strong optimization and a reliable user experience.
