Project

The aim of this project was to migrate Mutual’s website from Umbraco to WordPress while undertaking a complete redesign. The objective was to create a modern, high-performing website that would serve as a powerful tool for both users and the business.

My Role

I was responsible for conceptualizing the initial home page design, which set the visual and structural standard for the entire website. In addition, I handled the majority of the front-end development, ensuring that the new site delivered both aesthetic appeal and a seamless user experience.

Goals

  • Enhance website speed and accessibility
  • Redesign and optimize lead capture forms to increase conversions
  • Establish a cohesive, professional brand identity

The Challenge

Mutual of Omaha Mortgage needed a website that reflected its national reputation while improving accessibility, performance, and conversion opportunities.

The previous site suffered from slow load times, inconsistent design, and a navigation structure that made it difficult for users to locate essential information such as loan applications and calculators.

The challenge was to modernize the site while ensuring a smooth migration from Umbraco to WordPress and maintaining a balance between professional aesthetics and strong technical performance.

The Solution

The redesign process began with in-depth research into leading mortgage websites to identify modern UX trends and branding approaches. The result was a clean, professional new design with a strong emphasis on accessibility and user comfort.

Key improvements included:

  • A restructured navigation system featuring a mega menu for easier access to loan resources and tools.
  • Consistent spacing, reusable elements, and cohesive design components to establish a unified brand identity.
  • High-quality imagery to inspire visitors and reinforce the vision of homeownership.
  • Redesigned and optimized lead capture forms to increase conversion potential.

I conceptualized the initial homepage design, which set the visual and structural foundation for the rest of the website, and handled the majority of front-end development to ensure a seamless user experience across all devices.

The Results

The redesigned Mutual of Omaha Mortgage website is now faster, cleaner, and significantly more user-friendly. The new design strengthens the brand’s digital presence and has already shown measurable impact—most notably, achieving a 50% conversion rate on certain application forms.

Ongoing refinements are informed by real user data through analytics and heatmapping tools such as Hotjar, ensuring continuous improvement based on user behavior.
